It’s true that falling in Love and having an English lover is the best reason, most encouraging, intense and fun way to learn English, but there are plenty of other way to improve your level. Here are my top 10 tips for improving your English remotely or online.
1. Find a native online.
Truth be told there is no better way to improve your English online than to have lessons with a me – a native speaker. And because I won’t speak any other languages but English, it will force you to work harder in order to communicate.
2. English Day at home.
One day a week should be dedicated to speaking English at home. From morning to night, try to use as much English as possible. This is really good fun if all the family take part.
3. Try to learn a new phrase every day.
During the weekend, sit down and write down 5 new phrases for the week. Each day, take a phrase, repeat it to yourself and try to use it in a conversation.
4. Travel abroad.
Going to an English-speaking country great for really immersing yourself in the language. You’d be forcing yourself to open up, communicate and really dive in.
5. Keep the conversation going.
Improving your language skills is about listening as much as speaking, so keep the conversation going by asking questions and encouraging the other person to speak. Say things like:
“So what do you think?”
“Do you agree?”
“And you?”
“I’d like to hear your opinion?”
6. Drink alcohol.
It’s true that drinking relaxes you and removes any inhabitations you may have. Well, once in a while, try having an online lesson with a glass of wine You may find when your more relaxed with is easier to let the words flow. (not recommend for every lesson)
7. Keep a little black book.
Throughout the day, write down any new words you hear and try to keep a daily log of these words. Reviewing the book will greatly help you add new words to your vocabulary.
8. Read as much as you can.
Reading books, magazines and social media feeds in English is a great to improve. You’ll be revising common words and exposing yourself to new words, sentence, structures and fun context.
9. Watch movies with English subtitles.
When you watch English movies, try using English subtitles rather than your Polish, Ukrainian or Russian subtitles. It’s a great way to combine reading and listening skills
10. Listen to music and sing along
Music can be great for improving your listening skills. It’s both fun and relaxing. Music offers a fantastic source for new words.
Learning a language is not east but it can be fun . Just take it one step at a time and keep doing what you enjoy most. If learning gets you down, keep your chin up, it’s a long road but you’ll notice the rewards soon.
